From the Principal’s Office:

Great BBQ!  Thank you to the PTO for organizing this early family/school get-together.  To the many people who brought salad, dessert and beverage contributions, your efforts were greatly appreciated.  I appreciated having the opportunity to speak with several in attendance.  I look forward to the many events ahead in September to get to know you better.

Our fourth grade took a wonderful field trip to both the Clark Art Institute in Williamstown, MA and the Grandma Moses Museum in Bennington, VT.  The students had an opportunity to view exceptional works of art shown through presentations planned for their age group.  Two extra treats included going through the touring Picasso and Degas exhibit and climbing to the top of the Bennington Monument.  Teachers Kerry Manzolini, Ellen Campbell and Geoff Bell-Devaney created an exciting day for the fourth grade.

Kiss and Ride Afternoon Pick-up Changes

At our BBQ this week I addressed my concern about driver safety when picking your child up at school.  Currently, cars back up on Route 41 creating a dangerous situation from on-coming traffic.  This danger will only increase with bad weather and the loss of daylight saving time.

Starting on Monday, September 13th a new pattern of entrance and exit will go into effect.  I ask that you follow the directions of those staff on duty and drive along the route outlined by cones. Highlights of the plan include:

1. All cars will proceed down the driveway past the gym and into the recess play area beside the cafeteria.

2. The circle will only be used for the pick-up or drop-off a student or visitor needing handicapped access.

3. Cars will be directed to turn around a cone in the recess area and proceed back up the driveway.

4. NO driver will be permitted to park and exit his or her vehicle.

5. Students will be dismissed from the cafeteria door and will walk to your vehicle.

6.      If you have a need to park and come into school, you are requested to arrive after 3:15 when the heaviest traffic has passed.

I ask for your cooperation in implementing this procedure.  I would welcome your immediate feedback via phone or e-mail.  Please remember that your safety and that of your child is worth the patience needed to resolve this transportation bottleneck.

Notes from the Kitchen

Hello everyone we are off to a good start.  For those of you who are new to our program, come on in and join us for lunch and see all that we do.  Snack time has many options: cookie, raisins, muffins, juice and milk are 40 cents; fruit and Capri sun (5-8 only/snack only) are 50 cents; Gorp (peanuts & raisins) 60 cents and homemade granola & water are $1.00.  These items are not part of the free/reduce lunch program.

Also, during our BBQ someone unplugged the milk cooler and did not plug it back in.  I had to throw out all contents which cost the program about $75.00.

Please feel free to contact us anytime about any part of our program.

Musical Notes from Mrs. Mullen

Each year the Richmond Consolidated School offers beginning instruction on various wind instruments to students in grades 4-8. Students who enroll in the program will take weekly group lessons and will have the opportunity to play in one of our school bands. For all those students who wish to start an instrument this year there will be a parent-student meeting on Tuesday evening, September 21st at 6:30 p.m. in the cafeteria. At that time, we will give an overview of the program, display the instruments, and explain a rent-with-option-to-buy program, through which you can obtain an instrument. In addition your child will have an opportunity to try the various instruments.

The schedule for the evening will be as follows:  6:30-7:00 students will try instruments in the cafeteria. Fourth grade parents will meet with Mrs. Manzolini in her classroom. This meeting will replace the open house meeting on September 30th.  7:00 p.m. – Parents will join us in the cafeteria for the details of the band program.

We look forward to seeing you on the 21st.
