From the Principal’s Office
I would like to thank those parents of Middle School students who have elected to pick their children up in front of the school in the afternoons. I have monitored the traffic on Rt. 41 all week and I have not seen a back-up of cars to date. It appears as though we have found a workable solution. There appears to be additional room to grant another 3 or 4 cars permission to park in front. If you are interested in this invitation only pick-up option, email me at wtravis@richmondconsolidated.org.
The Open House program was well attended. It appears that the Open House format with the elementary grades starting ahead of the middle school start-time accommodated those families with children in multiple grades. A great deal of thanks goes out to the faculty for the time and thought put into preparing materials and informative presentations. Tammy’s snacks also helped keep the energy going! I also want to thank those grade 8 students who made themselves available to babysit during the Open House.
The 3rd grade celebrated Grandparent’s Day with a morning of activities and lunch. Several Richmond “seniors” volunteered to be stand-in grandparents and the interactions with the students were great to observe. Being a “senior” myself qualified me for the draft and must report that my morning with Melina was wonderful. Thank you to all who came for making this a special occasion.
Activities around school kick into high gear next week. All students will see a production on Wednesday put on by actors from the Berkshire Theater Festival. Faculty from grades Pre-K to 4 will put on MATH NIGHT for parents and students on Thursday, October 7th starting at 6:30 pm. This should prove to be an entertaining evening with many math activities parents can take home to use throughout the year. Friday night will be MOVIE NIGHT, a fund-raising effort put on by the 7th and 8th grade students.
The faculty will be sending out Progress Reports late next week. These reports will help to form the basis for discussion during Parent/ Teacher Conferences which occur on October 14/15. These reports are only preliminary indicators and my not cover all subject areas as we are still early into the year.

RICHMOND CRAFT & COUNTRY FAIR
Saturday, November 6th 10am – 3pm
Help spread the word! Posters for the Craft Fair will be available in the office and we need your help to hang them up all over the Berkshires, getting these up at places like grocery stores, coffee shops, offices, convenience stores etc. really helps to advertise the event.
The Richmond School PTO needs your help to gather items for the Silent Auction section of the Craft Fair. Last year parents did a great job contacting local businesses and getting items donated for the auction which resulted in thousands of dollars being raised for the school. If you work at or have a connection at a local business that is willing to donate an item or gift certificate we would appreciate you contacting them and having them mail the item or dropping it off at the school office. Please remember to keep yourselves in mind as well. We know there are many talented parents in the school community who may run a small business (construction, building etc.), sell Avon or Pampered Chef, or do crafts like jewelry making, basket weaving or canning on the side. Any and all donations to the silent auction raise much needed monies for the students and teachers at the school as well as bring attention to the many small businesses in Richmond. If you have any questions please feel free to contact Shannon Smith at 413-883-7231 or ssmith@leeregionalvna.com.
Volunteers are still needed for the event, sign up sheets will be placed at all school events or you can contact Biance Daigle for more information…binkyd@gmail.com
