Summer Reading!

June 15, 2012

Dear Students,

Reading for pleasure is something all of us at Richmond School value and look forward to as we ease into a more relaxed summer schedule. So this year I’m trying something different! Instead of assigning specific books to read during the summer, I’m leaving the decision up to you – the reader.

Over the summer your job is to find and read three or more chapter books that you love and would recommend to your classmates. To encourage variety, we’re asking that you recommend only one book in a series (but, of course, you can read them all!). When we come back to school in August we’ll be sharing our favorites with our school friends by writing book reviews, blogging, giving book talks, and creating special art projects.

If you’re like most people, you might want some suggestions or recommendations of books that other kids your age like. Here is a great website that could help you: You’ll find book reviews, author interviews, information about newly-published books, contests, trivia games, word scrambles, and you can read excerpts from some books.

Other websites to check out are:

So, enjoy your summer and read, read, read! We’re looking forward to starting our school year off with terrific conversations about the books you’ve discovered.

Yours in reading,

Mrs. Smith
