Turkey with stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy, blueberry cobbler and all the traditional fixings were served to 230 students, teachers and family members at our annual Families at School Thanksgiving Luncheon on Monday. Tammy, Sandy and Ann prepared the delicious food, which was then served by PTO parents. Eyes were opened wide with delight as the children and their parents selected cranberries, corn, sweet potatoes and squash to accompany their turkey from the bountiful buffet.
Following lunch, the audience was treated to a concert performed by the Richmond Consolidated School Jazz Band. Under the direction of Mrs. Joy Mullen, the eight-piece ensemble played “The Theme from the Pink Panther” and “Rocky Road.”
The 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades braved the snow flurries and wind to enjoy a chilly, 2-mile hike up Mt. Greylock on Thursday. Once at the top, our park ranger guide, Steve, explained the geology of the mountain and students discovered first-hand how the forest changes with the arrival of fall. After a quick lunch in the warmth of Bascom Lodge, students climbed up the tower to look out at the surrounding countryside. Some third graders even reported seeing Richmond School in the distance!
Special Education News:
Coordinated Program Review
Every six years the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education reviews the Special Education Program, Civil Rights Policies and English Language Education Program in each school district. This year Richmond was reviewed.
Our final report has arrived indicating our compliance in Special Education and Civil Rights (the ELE will arrive separately.) We did very well, but have a few areas we need to improve upon. We have written the required Corrective Action Plan (CAP) and have submitted it to the state for approval.
If you would like to see the results, a hard copy of the report can be found in the main office or Special Education office at our school.
